Art is for Everybody

High Spen is an amazing place. A sleepy rural village until the arrival of 'King Coal', it is now a vibrant place to live and work.  It offers fabulous forest walks in Chopwell woods, opportunities to 'grow your own' as part of a community at The Hop Garden, a wonderful primary school and so much more besides.

But a community needs community events - things we can all get involved in, and make new friends out of neighbours. Here at High Spen Community Arts, we are going to be working alongside a variety of artists and crafters to offer something for everyone, from babies to elders. Words,  arts and crafts, drama, seasonal events - something to interest everybody. High Spen Community Arts is all about the sharing skills and techniques, to bring out the artist in us all.

We also plan to hold community exhibitions and seasonal events, and run workshops for children and courses for adults. We are looking at funding currently to make as many of our events, groups and courses as possible free to attend. Many of our fee paying courses have bursaries attached, and all courses have special rates for concessions.
